made in 1961, this movie has made it into popular culture and into the greatest musicals of all time, and when you see the movie, you can see why.For the my generation (gen Y), this story won several oscars and is a Romeo and Juliet style story. WSS tells the story of the sister of a gang leader (Maria, played by Natalie Wood) who falls in love with Tony (Richard Beymer), a member of their rival gang.
great dancing, and singing (even if the 2 leads are dubbed), and great acting, about the only drawback is that it seems dated, nowadays a lot of kids and teenagers wouldn't watch this, despite that brilliance of it. i don't use the 'masterpiece' a lot but this movie has something!
a musical/drama, but with comedy splashed in at times, this movie is great to watch and listen too, you'd be surprised how many movies take ideas and songs from this movie. very good movie
