the Story of The Kelly gang (1906)

the first feature film. it was originally 70 minutes but it's so damaged and lost that only 16 minutes and 10 seconds are watchable.

although this movie was the first feature length film it wasn't the first film, the first was the 1890's i think.
The Americans overlook this film, probably because it's Australian and had nothing to do with America, so they say that "Birth of a nation" was the first feature. Yanks have to be first don't they?

i feel like some noodles....

Star Trek 2009

2009 was a good year for special effects, with Avatar, Harry Potter's 6th installment and Star trek.
Star Trek is my favorite film of 09, Avatar was good but without the special effects it would suck! and it was over-hyped and overrated. Star Trek deserved it praise, it was well cast, had the main characters and knock out SFX!

I liked Chris Pine as James Kirk, if only William Shatner had made a cameo, that would have been epic!!! but Leonard Nimoy was in it as future Spock, so that was great.
The plot is that Nero comes back in time, his arrival disrupts the continuum and creates an alternate reality, allowing director JJ Abrams to do whatever he wants, and he did it with style. awesome, awesome film.
Zachery Quinto (Sylar from the now canned Heroes) plays a good Spock, not straying too far from what he knows, (logicality and emotional, much to his chagrin, Sylar like) which seems Spock like as well. Quinto made a great Spock
Chris Pine, got the woman chasing part right! as someone who wasn't that interested in the original Star Trek i now want to see the series and movies! I liked Chris PIne in this, which is a rarity.
Zoe Saldana (of Avatar fame) was ok, no wow factor, but ok. like in everything else

overall i don't have that many bad things to say about this movie

Singin' in the rain (1952)

what is considered the greatest musical of all time is deserving, if not a bit overrated, but it's a simple film, easy to understand with some of the best dance choregraphy i've evn seen on screen

Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) is a silent film star in 1927, famous for his pairing with Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), but the studio is moving to talkies and theres a reason why Lina has to stay silent- she has a scratchy and horrible voice. But Don meets Kathy Seldon (Debbie Reynolds in her breakout role), who can sing and talks great! Lina doesn't like Kathy, and that's how the fun begins!

well in all honesty i watched the film last week and might have gotten a few deatils wrong but thats the basic outline of the story.
the acting is great, it's not brilliant, although Jean hagen was hysterical with that voice! i found it an interesting piece of trivia that she actually could sing in real life and even dubbed herself in the silent picture that we see in the film.
the music was great! fun to listen to and simple too. Dancing was what made the movie, it hold one of the most iconic dances in history, where Gene Kelly sings in the rain, but theres moe than just that scene! "Good Morning" is my favourite part of the whole film, that made it look so easy, Donald O'Connor was perfect in his solo "Make Em' Laugh".

acting: 4/5
songs: 4/5
dancing: 5/5
story: 3/5
writing: 4/5

film: 4/5
it's the greatest musical ever made, on regular film standards it's not brilliant but it deserves being the ruler of all musicals, after this film was released i'm sure that any musical the followed were compared it, it's unfair but this film is the perfect musical/comedy.
just my opinion but such a simple plot was elevted by electric performances and amzing dancing.
if you haven't seen it... SEE IT!!!!!!!!

Real Movies

a real film isn't a film that has a great special effects, that is a show, when you strip down a film like that you generally find the acting to wooden, the script to be mediocre and plot to be overly contrived. an exception to this rule is Star Wars, it's special effects pale in comparison to Avatar, but the rest of the film(s) make up for that! with characters that aren't as cliche'ed and if they are than they're acted very well.

a real movie doesn't need special effects, their were no giant technical machines or computerised worlds in films like The Shawshank Redemption,. All about Eve and Sunset Blvd. the latter 2 are 60 years old and still entertaining, witty and well done. no special effects required.
films are made to rake in money, and Avatar did that, and in 70+ years will people still be talking about it? no. with this new trend in film making it'll be only a matter of time before you won't even need actors for films! Avatar, will always be remembered for it special effects, not for dynamic story or amazing acting, or great dialogue, nothing like that. its a laser/lights show, made to keep people attentions with the pretty colours, its cheaper to go and see a fireworks display. don't get me wrong the effects were spectacular to look at but they're like models, great to look at but sometimes there isn't much else to rave over.

one of the great things about films is that you can switch off to them, not have to rethink your entire life during it.
i generally grade films on these things:
acting
story
dialogue
music (for musicals)
dancing (for musicals)
design
special effects

in that order, i don't care about effects, i don't need them to be present in every film i watch unlike some people, if i'm watching a sci fi and they have great special effects then thats a plus, but i can watch a sci fi with low budget special effects and still be entertained if something else makes up for it. films that rely on one specific aspect of film making (eg: just having name value etc etc) then it's not worth it if they only have one or 2 things going for it.
i'm one of those people who is not screaming over Avatar, its was good to watch but i'll never watch it again. But i will be buying Alice in Wonderland, purely because i found that more entertaining.

Glee

Glee. the television show that has brought a new high to comedy/musical TV.
its biting one liners, electrifying songs and fun characters are just a few good things about this show.
some of it has the overdone stereotype, like Kurt the gay teen, but its all in the stride of such a colorful and uplifting show. covers of songs are awesome and have opened up the worlds of Journey, Queen, Neil Diamond and Wicked to the people who weren't so familiar with them or are huge fans of them but loves Glee's take.

acting is great, Lea Michele has a great voice! Cory Monteith doesn't have the best voice or the best dance skills but its all in his character, he's a great leading man in the songs and not bad to look at. the guy who play Puck is underrated! great voice, good acting and good looking!
the cast is all round good and Mike, i do not know who plays him but he is a great dancers and needs some more screen time.
i love this show and believe that it is infectious, i can't not like this show.

acting: 3/5 gets a bit melodramatic at times
songs/dance: 4/5
writing: 4/5
show: 4/5

to anyone who has not seen tis how i recommend it to you.

A Folly Of Film: Remakes.

You know what i mean, now some remakes work, they live up to or better the original movie, but that could be that the original wasn't that great to begin with. A cult classic, a "so-bad-it's-good" kind of thing.

Remakes are everywhere, almost every movie copies another movie, it's clear that Hollywood has run out of ideas, and that's understandable, there are only so many idea's in the world right? BUT, if they aren't going to use an original plot line then shouldn't they try to make up for that? with, good jokes or really good art direction? something!

The producers (2005) isn't a direct remake of the original (1968), but rather a musical film of the Broadway musical that was inspired (adapted? whatever!) by the original movie. but for the sake of argument lets call it a remake, cos on a technicality it IS. The dialogue is very close to it, they match almost scene by scene and use some of the original props, but the performances were funnier (just my 2 cents) the songs were great (the original wasn't a musical). Remakes work sometimes, but sometimes they just can't do it.
Fame (1980) was very good! however Fame (2009) wasn't, too many characters lack of plot, boring characters (what a waste of Kelsey Grammar and Megan Mullally's talent), and the acting just wasn't up to the par of the original. therin lies the problems with remakes, you already have you're audience (the original fans) and now you just need to reel everyone else in, but the spend too much time on making it appealing to people who don't know Fame, and they alienate the original fans, they want to see the original integrity and trueness that the original had, with real characters that people could relate to, these characters weren't good, and the over time the writers put into making the characters appealing to modern audiences clearly made them forget about the plot.
anyway, remakes shouldn't happen, and if they do then they need to live up to the original, or at least TRY.
they plan to remake Footloose (1984), can you DO that in a modern setting? Footloose took place in 1984, with no internet, or iphones or normal cell phones for that matter! so it was easier to have the little town of Boumont isolated, but in todays modern age you can get to anything. if Footloose takes place in modern days it'll just look completely stupid!

alright, original idea's aside, some movies might be okay, but remakes shouldn't happen unless they are going to have some defining thing to make them different. how would any of you feel if they remade.... oh i don't know... Some Like it hot? it just wouldn't be the same.

REMAKES MUST LIVE UP TO THE ORIGINAL OR DO NOT MAKE THEM AT ALL!

Gypsy (1962)

this is a biopic/comedy/drama/musical about the life of Gypsy Rose Lee, the most sophisticated stripper who ever lived, her demanding stage mother, (Rosalind Russel) and her (the mothers) attempts at living through her two children.

the plot may sound a bit boring but the movie is very interesting, backed by great performances and music, there is little wonder about why this movie is considered a classic.
it goes for a very long time but after watching it you'll feel happy, you'll feel kinda sad, it depends on how you interpret it. i for one loved it!

this movie is NOT the one with Bette Midler in it, this is waaaaay better, Natalie Wood was the best possible Gypsy and the rest of the cast were well suited to their roles.
it was interesting, funny, well acted, good singing, it was almost the perfect movie. i never liked the Bette Midler version, i don't like Bette Midler, her singings fine i just don't like he movies.

the start is a bit slow but once it gets going you'll love it!
i can't really say anything else, i have no beef with it, i can't say much else at all. just see it, it's great

acting 5/5 Roz Russel's line delivery was great, as was Natalie Woods performance.
story 4/5 slow at first but it gets sooooo good
songs 4/5 i've heard better singing, but the msuic and the way they sang the songs were spot on in my opinion
movie 4 and a half/5

i know that a lot of people like the Bette Midler one, but this movie is clearly superior in acting and story telling.

Modern Disney

i don't just review movies, i tell what i think about the industry.

do you remember Snow White and the seven dwarfs? the film made in 1937 and was the first colored feature? not only was it cutting edge back then but it was made with the heart that should be in all movies! Walt Disney (winner of 22 Oscars for either himself or his films) genuinely wanted to make a great movie and not just a cash in or a money grubber.
this tradition continued through Cinderella with it beautiful music and enchanting characters, through Sleeping Beauty with its tremendous visuals that may not seem like much compared to box office success' like Avatar but back then (and when i was little) i loved looking at the detail and all the colors! the dress changing color at the end is memorable and truly felt magical AND the music score it has is great!
Even after Walt died there were still good movie's: The Little Mermaid, Mulan, a Bugs Life, Toy Story, The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast and Shrek! there were others but those are the main players, oh! lets not forget Tron!
then came that wretched word: SEQUEL

now i'm not bashing sequels in general, the Toy Story sequel is one of the few that lives up to its predecessor (and i look forward to number 3), Shrek 2 also did that (although i just didn't see it in Shrek 3).
Mulan 2 was manufactured droll, as was the Cinderella sequel's and that thing with Selena Gomez. they were clearly cashing in on great stories and masterpieces of imagination! but dumbing them down, seriously, i reckon that my generation can be dumber than cave men some times.
The Little Mermaid 2 is one that i haven't seen, so i can't comment on that, but i have seen clips, and i can see that they just didn't put all that much work into it. The Lion King had the same plot as William Shakespeare's Hamlet, but i'll let that off because it maybe unoriginal, but Shakespeare in Disney is a stroke of genius! The Lion King 2, was Romeo and Juliet all over, only in the end the lovers don't die, yet another triumph, i didn't like number 3 though, i just didn't feel it.
Disney went down hill in the 90's, works like Mulan and The Lion King were rare and the only thing that is saving Disney is Pixar (extra emphasis on Pixar) Miley Cyrus' legions of tweeny bopping girls, and ugh... The Jonas Brothers. who, BTW brings nothing new or good to the music industry.
but i'll give Disney this: i think that the Tron sequel might be good.

as Walt Disney once said: "i don't like to revisit past success's, i like to move on to something new" or something to that effect. Disney tends to use the same tired stories over and over, only in a new setting or with new actors... that doesn't make it good!!!
High School Musical was bad, the sequels cashed in on kids who didn't know what real musicals were, and probably still don't. The sequel's used different songs and stuff but they were bad songs in the first place! bitter sweet (very bittersweet), over the top and painfully cheesy. i heard that they're making a fourth. why!!!!!!!!!!!??????????

Ever seen Camp Rock? it's one of those movies with an over used and at times non existent plot that cashes in on a popular band (in this case the Jonas Brothers) and makes them act! oh the humanity!!! Joe wasn't too bad but whatever hope he has at an acting career is dashed due to his horrible movie appearances, the JBs are nothing more than box office draws for tween an teen-aged girls who have no lives. and get this: they're making a second one!
Don't even get me started on those twins in The Suite Life series.

yes, i DID watch the Disney channel, but i haven't for sometime, i have a very good memory and happen to remember these things.
Disney is everywhere, they have a theme park that charges too much, mediocre products that spring from the shelves because they have Miley Cyrus's or Zac Efron's picture on them. modern Disney is a heartless organisation that was once great and made movies that had a touch of movie magic, heart and true imagination. Fantasia was a rather long movie with no spoken dialogue, it was all set to beautiful classical music, a heightened bass aould show anger or fear, and treble could show happiness! a true piece of visual and musical art, kids nowadays wont listen/watch to it, but when they're older they'll understand why it is so highly regarded.

they should create a "Classic" Disney channel, because with modern Disney trying so hard to make people watch and/or by their products people so often forget where it all came from.

the films of classic Disney weren't completely original in storyline, BUT it was the execution, the emotion the musical, the voice work and the imagery that made them great and original! look at nowadays. poor execution, poor acting, poor everything! i'd rather see a brilliant Disney adaption rather than an idiotic, SUPPOSEDLY original Disney movie. what about you?

RANT OUT

Cry Baby (1990)

this film star's Johnny Depp and Amy Locane as Wade "Cry Baby" Walker who has the ability to shed a single tear and make girls swoon, and Locane is Allison the 'square' who falls for Cry Baby.

thats the plot, but this film is also a loving spoof of teen angst films in the 50's, and is a musical. by John Waters. yeah, so you know it's gotta have something going for it! don't expect Grease, cos this movie isn't trying to be it. it's its own movie and it has done a pretty good job! the songs are cool, i especially like "Doing time for being young".
this was during that time when Johnny Depp didn't sing so he was dubbed, Locane was dubbed too. but don't you dare think that that takes away from this movie! it's a musical comedy that is worth watching, you wont have this huge enlightenment after watching it, you'll just feel entertained and remember why Johnny Depp is awesome.

Wanda's parents are priceless! obviously spoofing the bittersweet parent that are so PC that they can't see past their noses, and they're just so funny! oh! and when JD sings this song in and Elvis Presley way, its so good! and he was so hot! JD with that hairstyle, he's the perfect cry baby.
it's not Hairspray, but again it's not meant to be. this is a feel good romp that leaves you with a nice feeling at the end of the movie.

acting 3/5. it's nothing special but it's decent.
Story 3/5 understandable and basic, nothing special
songs 3/5 again: nothing new (but hey, it IS set in the 50's) but enjoyable to listen to.
Movie 3 and a half/5 i added the half because its so well done!

it's fun, funny, it has Johnny Depp, good music, a good plot. it has everything and some John Waters charm! nothing special on paper but on but when you watch the movie it has something, think: the fifties revisited and spoofed.
it's a good movie that despite its look of normal is elevated by good humor and you get a good vision on what it is trying to do. and it has succeeded. rent or buy this movie, it's good! there's nothing wrong with it, it's just that its not bad enough to get a 2 and not up to my standards of a 4.

Just Buried (2007)

2007 was pretty good year for film, and this movie probably got lost in the hype of Enchanted, Hairspray and No Country for old men, it may not live it up to the Oscar winning NCFOM, or the bright and bubbly of Enchanted or the music and energy of Hairspray, but this movie isn't meant to. it's twisted with an interesting plot with decent twists in the story to maintain your interest.

Rose Byrne (Damages) and Jay Baruchel (star of the new flick She's out of my league) star as Roberta Knickel and Oliver Whynacht.
Oliver inherits a bankrupt funeral home from his estranged father, only here's the thing: no-one in town is dying. when Oliver accidentally hits a man with his car, he and Roberta scramble to cover it up leading into even more deaths.

this movie was more intriguing than funny, although it did have it's moments, it depends on your sense of humour. It's not a complicated plot, so you won't have to think too much but pay attention just enough so you can go "wow! i didn't expect that!"

for acting: 3/5 the movie didn't really require much, even though most people know how good Rose Byrne is
story: 4/5 interesting, perhaps not as funny as it was intended but still funny.
deaths: 3/5 pretty cool and original, a lagging bit was probably that no-one pegged it was them, even though they left a lot of finger prints. pretty bad murderers, but since its only a movie...
Movie: 3 and a half out of 5

a decent score, not bad not great, its better than a lot of the crap that comes out today.

Jawbreaker (1999)

a dark comedy/crime, this film stars little knowns Rose McGowan, Judy Greer and Julie Benz, there was a third but i didn't really pay that much attention to the credits. this film had an interesting plot and a nice (maybe not "nice" but you get what i mean) take on high school politics, albeit unbelievable.

when a prank on their perfect friend Liz goes wrong (Courtney -Rose McGowan- put a jawbreaker in her mouth on which she subsequently choked on), the 3 remaining friends try to hide the truth, Courtney convinces the other 2 not to got to the cops but the following events make things harder each time.

this movie, had pretty weak acting, which is a shame since it had such a great storyline, i still prefer Heathers (the murders and the characters were more interesting), this movie was clearly meant to be the Heathers of the 90's, and they tried. Heathers had a dark wit with better acting, this movie border lines psychotic at times(and not in a good way), but i'll give it this: the end was fitting, it had some good moments, but what drew it back was that you didn't care for any of the characters, it was obvious that Courtney was the villain so you needn't care about her! But Fern, for one was just such a tool! unlikeable characters aren't good, simple as that. its not that awesome but if you like Marilyn Manson (he has a very brief cameo) then rent this so you can spot him.

acting 2/5 story 4/5 originality 3/5(i can't get over the whole Heathers thing- which BTW is a better movie)
movie 3/5
not bad not awesome, just a good kinda enjoyable (if you like Mean Girls with murder), 2 hours on the couch

Disaster Movie

Disaster Movie was made in 2008, it is a parody movie of... i guess all movies, from HSM to Juno to Enchanted.
this movie is simply a disaster movie, it was unfunny, terrible humor, the jokes are mindless physical gags. i have this friend who doesn't know good movies, he thinks that the greatest movie ever made was The Fast And The Furious! he recommended this film, so i didn't expect much from this movie, all i can say is: TERRIBLE! i know that its supposed to be a parody movie, but aren't parody movies meant to be funny? i'm not big on the more recent parody movies, Epic Movie wasn't great but it was funnier than this. Give me Hot Shots, not another teen movie and scary movie! they were at least funny!

again, i know that it is a parody film but is that any reason to have such horrible acting, directing, writing and lame cameos? no! parodies are meant to be funny, if not hilarious! if you want real spoofs you should check out the ones i mentioned above, and maybe even French and Saunders on Youtube, i recommend the Star Wars spoof, very funny. this movie was not, i hate HSM but put that next to this movie and HSM looks like it deserved an Oscar!

i urge you no to see this movie!
acting 1/5 story 1/5 spoofs 0/5
movie 0/5

i have seen bad movies, and bad spoofs, but NEVER have i seen a parody movie that didn't make me at least snicker, this movie is the worst movie ever made by anyones standards!

Heathers (1988)

I first found this movie when i was looking up Mean Girls, then someone in on the message board said that this movie was a watered down version of Heathers, i now see that it was VERY watered down. Heathers destroys Mean Girls in my opinion, with that wit and darkness, there are seldom teen movies nowadays that portray high schoolers as intelligent human beings who recognize a copy of Moby Dick or The Bell Jar, without Heathers there would be no Jawbreaker, no Mean Girls and definably NO Juno.

This movie is one of my favorites, it's an escape, twisted at times but a brilliant satire on high school life that you can still relate to today. it's a satirical semi spoof of high school slasher film (most notably: Massacre at central high. a cult horror flick) adding wit and intelligence to what could have easily been a film made in bad taste.
no movie would dare do what this film did, not in this post Columbine world, but for anyone unaffected by that tragedy or loves dark comedy, or Christian Slater or Winona Ryder, this movie is for you.

Veronica Sawyer (Ryder) is part of the 'in' crowd at school, but doesn't like her company, the 3 heathers (Played by Lisanne Falk, Shannon Doherty and Kim Walker). Then she meets Jason Dean (Slater), who helps her out, by killing the popular kids and starting a "suicide epidemic" at the school.

this movie has some truly classic lines that i just love to say, what kid hasn't thought about killing the bullies of the school? for every twisted mind, or comedy lover (or just lover of the actors in this) i recommend this movie, you will not be disappointed.

5/5 for story 3/5 acting (Slaters Jack Nicholson impression grates at times) 4/5 for darkness
movie: 4/5

10 things i hate about you

made in 1999, this kovie stars the late Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles as patrick Verona and Katerina Stratford. loosley based on William Shakespeares "The Taming of the shrew", this movie has the right blend of romance, comedy and drama, with likeable charcters and a nice portrayal of high school, even though in HS a girl will seldom get her patrick, but oh it's nice to dream....

the soundtrack is awesome! i swear that downloaded a whole bunch of songs from this movie. Seriously.
Acting is great and i felt tears i my eyes during the poem that Kat reads, so great. well round characters, with Joseph Gorden-Levitt, Larrisa Oleynik and Allsion Janney in support.
this an hysterically funny movie that you can really get into, fun and romantic, anyone can watch it.

acting- 4/5 soundtrack- 4/5 story- 4/5
movie-4/5
this movie is great, but there are some pop culture referances that some people won't understand, but i doubt that nobody has a slight inkling about who Chuchi is.

RENT

made in 2005, this movie is based on the 1996-2008 broadway play of the same name, it follows a year in the life of 8 friends, 4 of which are suffering from either AIDS or HIV.

lots of songs, which is an instant point from me, it has some humour thrown in but it's serious, due to the issues it deals with. Sometimes the songs can be a bit much but you get over it very quickly when you're taken in by how good they are, good lyrics, nice music and are staged very well.
this is not an ordinary musical, this has a powerful message backed by great songs and acting from all the main charcters. the scenes can stuck with you, and sometimes you'll find your self humming a tune or two. if haven't seen this then i recomend it, it has heart in it and really looks like they were trying to make a good movie, for the most part, they succeeded, but if you don't like serious issues or homosexuality in movies, then this movie isn't for you.

i'm not a critic who gives good reviews to every film she see's, but i just happen to be lucky enough to get movies that i like, most movies i see are ones i like cos i have a good sense.

3/5 for story, it's lacking in some points, 5/5 for music, 4/5 for acting.
4/5 all up

West Side Story

made in 1961, this movie has made it into popular culture and into the greatest musicals of all time, and when you see the movie, you can see why.

For the my generation (gen Y), this story won several oscars and is a Romeo and Juliet style story. WSS tells the story of the sister of a gang leader (Maria, played by Natalie Wood) who falls in love with Tony (Richard Beymer), a member of their rival gang.

great dancing, and singing (even if the 2 leads are dubbed), and great acting, about the only drawback is that it seems dated, nowadays a lot of kids and teenagers wouldn't watch this, despite that brilliance of it. i don't use the 'masterpiece' a lot but this movie has something!
a musical/drama, but with comedy splashed in at times, this movie is great to watch and listen too, you'd be surprised how many movies take ideas and songs from this movie. very good movie

acting 4/5 choreography 5/5 music 5/5
movie 5/5

Jolie For Darkness?

i have just read that Angelina Jolie is being considered for the remake of Sleeping Beauty, (and she's keen on it) but don't worry, she won't be playing princess Aurora, she could be Maleficient, the villain, its live action so expect some cool graphics, especially since rumour has it that Tim Burton (Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands) will direct it!

Its said to be a twist on it, its from Maleficients POV, the screenplay is called "Maleficient". ah the route of "Wicked". telling the story from the villains perspective. love it. i always like to know more about villains.

i like this idea, Alice in Wonderland was great (although i am a biased for Johnney Depp), i might oppose remakes but lets face it, the 1959 classic isn't apreciated by this generation, maybe they need a brand new version to inspire them to give the original movie and other disney classics a go. but i would like Maleficient NOT to be portrayed as 'pushed' into evil, cos i liked it in Wicked because of the way they did it, but Maleficient had no Glinda to her Elphaba (unless you count the fairies, which could be interesting but... NO!). Just keep Maleficient evil.athst why we like her. she used to scare me when i was little.
i don't usually post gossip, but i just thought i should share.
no songs are part of the deal thus far. sorry musical fans

High School Musical Series

What can i say about the HSM series?
Walt Disney would not have been happy, that man was original and made so many classic fairytales what they are, in fact just today we talked about Alice in Wonderland, the disney verison is considered the only version at my school! although the new one is a must see! but the disney version was the first we saw.

i didnt expect much, my friends had been raving over this and i thought that it can't be that bad. i was soooo wrong.

HSM's the plot is unoriginal, it borrows 90% of its plot from Grease and whats more, it has the audacity to even use every stereotype in the book! popular jock falls in love with brainy yet shy girl for some reason, (i'm assuming cos she has a brain), but that just further enhances the stereotype that cheerleaders and popular girls don't have brains.
Zac Efron was not belivable as a straight guy, Vannessa Hudgens played her charcter well, but it wasn't a great character, the only ones who i think knew what they were doing were Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel (Sharpey and Ryan), they might have had stereotypical charcters but at least you found yourself getting a snicker out of them at some moments.

the songs are shit. plain and simple. obvious lip syncers and stupid dances! they phyisically hurt me, i used to like them (4 years ago) but then i found REAL musicals, West Side Story, Rent, Wicked and Easter Parade destroy every piece of crap this movie has spawned and if the tweeny boppers of today would sit down and watch Easter Parade or Grease or Meet Me in St Louis they would see what a REAL musical is. hIgh School musical became a phenomonen, and although its "old news" now (thank god) i still find it coming up in conversation about how great it is and i just want to punch that person in the face.

i will give credit to the movies though, you know why? cos the careers of the cast of HSM will always have this movie, they'll always be known for this movie, no matter how many good movies they make (although i don't expect many) they will have that title following them around. which makes me kinda happy.

if you want a good musical, go and borrow Rent, or Grease or The Wizard of oz! Even the Aristocats. Cats sing better than than the cast of HSM. i know this movie is aimed at kids but c'mon! i doubt that kids will grow up loving these movies, not like classic disney! i'm 14 and just yesterday i watched Alice in wonderland (the original), Beauty and the beast and Cinderella!
